Carl Sandburg College Theater presents “To Be Honest,” an original production that explores what it’s really like to talk openly about our lives, at 7 p.m. each night from April 19-21 in the Fine Arts Theatre, Room F118, on the Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.

Director and assistant professor of theater Susan Sharp envisioned a play where students could talk about serious things, silly things and anything in between to deliver a message that’s important to them.

“There’s a diversity of ideas in the play, but they reflect honestly the ideas and perspectives of our students,” Sharp said. “There’s really something for everyone.”

Students involved in the show include Alli Chasteen (Oneida), Kaitlyn Pleshko (Monmouth), Dayton Whiting (Williamsfield), Norman Luna (Mexico City), Sheila Bowling (Cameron), Alexis Trimble-Johnson (Galesburg) and Jefferson McCain-Shauman (Galesburg). Each of these students crafted their own monologue and wrestled with their pasts, their families and with their own level of transparency. A post-show discussion in which the audience can ask questions to the cast and crew will take place following Friday’s performance.

Tickets are $8 for general admission and $4 for senior citizens and non-Sandburg students. Admission is free to Sandburg students, faculty and staff with a College ID. The box office opens at 6 p.m. each night, and doors open at 6:30 p.m. No children under 12 will be permitted due to strong language and themes in the show.
